SC affirms ruling that voids SAGE online gambling franchise

Posted 06:25pm (Mla time) Feb 25, 2005 By Philip Tubeza Inquirer News Service THE SUPREME Court has affirmed with finality its ruling that voided a franchise for online gambling that was given to a private firm by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. The high tribunal denied the motion for reconsideration filed by the Sports and Games and Entertainment Corp. (SAGE), the firm that was given the voided franchise. The court said the SAGE did not present substantial arguments to warrant the reversal of its earlier decision. In its earlier January 2004 decision, the high court said PAGCor acted beyond the limits of its authority when it permitted SAGE to operate sports betting and Internet gaming stations.
